Abstract

This report describes, analyzes and critically reflects on the work developed as parto of the Supervised Teaching Practice, in 2020/2021 academic year, in the disciplines of “Oficina de Artes” and “Materiais e Tecnologias”, involving the “Cidadania e Desenvolvimento” component. This Teaching Unit, entitled “Brinquedo Solidário”, was implemented at the Secondary School of Caneças, with the 12th grade class of the Visual Arts scientific-humanistic course. The idea was to bring to the school a transdisciplinary project that would involve the out-of-school reality and allow students to develop relevant skills for their academic, artistic and professional career, providing them with a vision of Art as a means of intervention in society and awakening them to more solidary and altruistic practices. The applicability of the contents foreseen in the curricula of the disciplines became imperative in this project as well as the constant concern with student motivation in order to promote meaningful learning. Combining the study and practice of project methodology applied to product design (something that arouses the students' curiosity) with social solidarity (also of their interest) a partnership with a Non Governmental Organization (World Needs) emerged, which allowed to signify and move the students' work (toys, later donated) from the classroom to concrete, real-life contexts. In this report we studied several currents, methodologies and teaching strategies that we used in our teaching practice, such as pedagogical differentiation, dialogue, feedback and project-based learning. We also presented and characterized the context in which the action took place, analyzed the whole process and interpreted the data collected, concluding that this project increased the motivation of students, awakening them to social issues and encouraging them to act through their visual productions, which had a very positive impact on their lives and their academic and artistic paths.
