Hemocomponentes e hemoderivados: suas aplicações terapêuticas

Abstract

Of the many therapeutics available in today’s medicine, hemotherapy is one of the most relevant and promising in terms of the health and survival of the population at a global level, because if used correctly it leads to a partial or even total recovery of the patient. With that being said, the present monograph addresses the path of blood donations from the moment the candidate decides to make the donation, until the moment the recipient receives it. The various criteria to be met when selecting donors, the donations, and the way they are processed according to their purpose, as well as their subsequent processing and storage, are also approached. Throughout the monograph the characterization of the transfusion and subsequent use of blood components and blood products, as well as the standards, procedures, and applicable legislation, are also carried out. In addition, the therapeutic applications of blood components and blood products in Portugal and in the World, are also described and prospected, as well as their application for COVID-19 treatment.
