Abstract

Among many other theoretical-practical dimensions encompassed by the Documentation and Information Sciences, Archival Science assumed a central role early in terms of concerns for the development of new methodological ideas in order to allow it to remain afloat against the demands that the times and the contexts of production and document management impose. Archives, estates and personal libraries have the common trait of personality, which has meant that, particularly in recent decades, they have been the subject of many reflections that lead us not only to the way they should be faced within Informational Science, but also for the way in which they can assume a different ethos that, by themselves, may justify, or not, unique and distinct documental organization procedures, distinct not only from other types of archives, but also from each other. The present report, revolving around this issue, was developed as a result of the work carried out at the Museum of Neo-Realism, having as its object of study the personal archive of writer Mário Braga. In view of its identification, organization, and representation of the information contained therein, we sought to establish a familiarization of the documental procedure praxis applied in the Museum, not only with the aim of acquiring practical archival experience, but also in order to reflect on these same practices, in the light of the approaches that have emerged in more recent times and bringing, with the course of the work, new data to the author's biographic and biobibliographic course, highlighting the preponderant role that he assumed not only in the history of the portuguese Neo-Realism movement, but also in the general cultural dimension of 20th century Portugal.
