As complicações do implante coclear

Abstract

Cochlear implantation is a very safe routine procedure, used to rehabilitate hearing in patients with profound sensorineural deafness. Since it is an invasive surgery, it will always carry some risk of associated complications, which can have a great impact on the patient's quality of life. However, the overall rate of complications is relatively low, rounding 9%, which has been decreasing over time as a result of improved surgical techniques and the implant itself. Currently, there is no consensus on the classification of cochlear implant complications, leading to a great heterogeneity in the literature found. Therefore, in this Final Master's Work, these complications will be divided between Major and Minor and also temporally in relation to the moment of surgery, and should not be seen as a rigid and definitive classification. The most frequent Major complication is device failure and the Minor are cochleovestibular and infectious complications; while Minor complications are more common in the adult population, there is no difference between the two populations in Major complications.
