Abstract

This study systematises the processes undertaken in the construction of the so-called Teachers’ Professional Autonomy Evaluation Scale (EAP). The results obtained in the 32 items of this scale were analysed regarding construct and external reliability and validity. Factorial analysis of the main components with varimax rotation revealed the presence of six specific factors, besides one general factor, concerning the multidimensionality of the construct teachers’ professional autonomy. The variance explained by the set of six factors reached 64.56% of the total variance of results. The internal consistency coefficients were very high, for the different factors and for different groups. The indexes of external validity were very satisfactory. Results were in accordance with the existing theoretical positions, regarding both professional autonomy (Friedman, 1999) and the psychometric perspective of psychological evaluation.
