Os primórdios da implementação romana em Olisipo

Abstract

Quando os exércitos romanos de Gneu Cornélio Cipião desembarcaram em Ampúrias, em 218 a.C., já a cidade de Olisipo era uma antiga e secular urbe portuária, gozando de franca autonomia. Não se trata, portanto, de uma realidade que se desenvolve após a conquista romana, mas de um núcleo habitado já com uma longa tradição. Analisar os primórdios da implantação romana em Olisipo apresenta-se como uma tarefa complexa. A ocupação ininterrupta da colina do Castelo, desde inícios do primeiro milénio antes de Cristo até à atualidade, associado à forte tradição de atividade sísmica, e às inerentes reconstruções urbanas, levaram à formação de amplas e complexas estratigrafias, tornando mais difícil perceber a evolução da urbe, em particular nas suas fases mais recuadas. Apesar desta complexidade, o desenvolvimento da atividade arqueológica nas últimas duas décadas permitiu aumentar substancialmente os dados empíricos disponíveis, sendo hoje possível vislumbrar a relevância desta fase na história da cidade e sublinhar o alcance que o porto de Olisipo assumiu desde cedo CFabião e Pimenta, 2014).
