Surdez neurossensorial súbita

Abstract

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is an unexplained entity characterized by the onset of a sensorineural hypoacusis in a short period of time. It is defined as a loss of 30 dB or greater over at least three contiguous frequencies in a tone audiometry within 72 hours. For the majority of cases proper investigation does not identify the etiologic factor and is thus considered idiopathic. In this context treatment is based on corticosteroids. When a cause is identified, treatment should be directed towards that cause. Most patients regress spontaneously, regardless of the etiologic factor or treatment. The present work is a systematic review about sudden sensorineural hearing loss and aims to explore the different aspects of the pathology, with special focus on its etiology, diagnosis and treatment.
