Fisiopatologia do mergulho : barotrauma e doença descompressiva

Abstract

The popularity of recreational diving with compressed air has grown at a considerable pace; with the number of certifications for practice estimated to nearly triple in the last 20 years. In addition, the exploitation of the aquatic environment still has prospects of being extended, with the creation of permanent underwater installations in the near future. Due to all this and given the risks inherent in diving practice, it becomes fundamental, to the doctor, both at the level of primary care with a preventive intent, but also in the context of urgency to have notions of the main pathologies associated with diving, in order to able to act quickly and effectively. In the work, two disorders associated with diving, decompression sickness and Barotrauma are discussed, given their prevalence and the potential disastrous consequences that may arise if they are not readily identified. Particular importance is given to the pathophysiology of the disease, its clinical manifestations and some general notions of its treatment.
