Lúpus Eritematoso Sistémico e Aterosclerose prematura

Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disorder with a complex and multifactorial etiopathogenesis. Incidence rates of cardiovascular disease are higher in SLE, which constitutes its major cause of long term morbidity and mortality. The pathogenesis of premature atherosclerosis in SLE is due to a complex interaction between traditional and disease-related factors. We present a case of acute myocardial infarction in a young female SLE patient. This case emphasizes the importance of expanding our understanding of the mechanisms behind premature atherosclerosis in SLE and the need to validate new and improved strategies of diagnosis, monitoring and clinical intervention.
