Abstract

A espiritualidade é hoje uma dimensão em crescente valorização na medida em que se assiste actualmente a uma maior preocupação no desenvolvimento quer a nível pessoal quer a nível profissional de forma a proporcionar um maior bem-estar. Este estudo analisa a perspectiva dos profissionais de saúde, médicos e enfermeiros, face à espiritualidade, sua importância e inclusão na prestação de cuidados de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo com recurso a metodologia qualitativa, do tipo exploratório e descritivo. Os dados obtidos foram colhidos por entrevista semi-estruturada a profissionais de saúde a desenvolverem a sua actividade em serviços de Cuidados Paliativos. Segundo os dados obtidos, verificamos que os profissionais de saúde descrevem a espiritualidade de forma diferente, ainda que todos sejam unânimes na clara distinção de espiritualidade e religiosidade. Concluiu-se igualmente que é atribuída importância à espiritualidade quer na vida pessoal quer na vida profissional onde dizem ser relevante a inclusão desta dimensão na abordagem à pessoa doente. Por último, verificamos que os profissionais que desenvolvem a sua actividade nos serviços de cuidados paliativos referem alterar a sua forma de estar no quotidiano pela constante aprendizagem que realizam.

Spirituality is nowadays a growing dimension element as according to more importance attention is attached to its development, either in the personal level or in the professional in order to provide a major well being. This study analyzes the perspective of nursing regarding spirituality, its importance and its enforcement in health cares. The data were achieved by semi-structured interview done to health professionals working in palliative cares service. According to the information gathered, we observe that health professionals define spirituality in various manners; however all are unanimous in distinguishing spirituality and religiousness. We noticed that spirituality is also fairly valued or in personal either professional life by the professionals, which emphasize its significance in the approach to the diseased. Finally, we verified that professionals developing activity in palliative cares service modify their way of being as a consequence of their everyday learning.
