Abstract

relação entre megaeventos e produção do espaço urbano tem sido objeto de abundante estudo e reflexão na Geografia e áreas afins ao longo das últimas duas décadas. A maioria dessa literatura, porém, surge enformada por uma perspetiva bastante materialista e economicista, onde essas ditas relações tendem a ser vistas apenas à luz do processo de acumulação de capital. As preocupações fundamentais dos trabalhos produzidos sobre este tema têm residido em procurar avaliar o real efeito dos megaeventos na economia, na regeneração urbana e na competitividade das cidades, olhando para critérios pretensamente objetivos como os efeitos multiplicadores dos investimentos, as receitas arrecadadas, a criação de emprego e o aumento da procura de turistas, ou então, para os que adotam uma perspetiva mais crítica, perceber os impactes dos megaeventos na produção de novas desigualdades e na segregação socioespacial (KANG E PERDUE, 1994; ESSEX E CHALKLEY, 1998; WAITT, 1999; MARAGALL, 1999; JONES, 2001; GELAN, 2003; RICHARDS E WILSON, 2004; BROUDEHOUX, 2007; YUEN, 2008).[...]
