Based on the Exhibition Assentamento (Settlement), this article articulates approaches on specific images produced by Brazilian artist Rosana Paulino, mainly in respect to problems related to the place and location of the subject and condition of Black culture in the constitution of Brazilian society. A critical gaze on centuries of history bring to light strong images that compose an important reflexive story of a female and black artist who questions and evaluates the atrocities of the society to which we belong and constitute ourselves as subjects and collectivity
