Surdez súbita associada ao mergulho

Abstract

Hearing is the ability to perceive sound. Everyday we are exposed to thousands of different sounds, making it easier for us to integrate into the surrounding environment, learn, socialize, work and communicate. It is an important link to the outside world and enriches us in various ways. We can hardly imagine ourselves without this capacity but not all of us can experience it in its fullness. Deafness affects one’s personality, incapacitating them in many ways. This partial or total deficit can be congenital or acquired, presenting multiple etiologies divided into three types: Conductive, Sensorineural or Mixed Hearing Loss. The ear, given its anatomo-physiological characteristics, coupled with the adverse conditions in diving, is often injured in this practice. Sudden Hearing Loss in diving and its associations with the various otological disturbances arising from it will be discussed.
