Xilitol e flúor na prevenção da cárie dentária

Abstract

O xilitol, um dos substitutos do açúcar utilizados na composição de alimentos é reconhecido como importante na prevenção da cárie dentária. O flúor, tem sido utilizado para a prevenção da cárie quer através de aplicação tópica, ou em águas de consume, atingindo reduções nas cáries dentárias de 40 a 60%. A utilização do xilitol em produtos de Higiene Oral em conjunto com o flúor tem sido objecto de cada vez maior aplicação, com resultados prometedores na prevenção da cárie dentária. Com o objectivo de estudar a utilização de soluções compostas por xilitol e flúor é elaborada, neste artigo, uma revisão bibliográfica da utilização destes produtos.
