Abstract

The main purpose of this text is to trace how the disciplinary regimes combined with the pedagogical discourse intended to produce a transformation in the marginal children, so that they accept moral normalized social rules and become autonomous and productive. During the 19th century, the arising of new politic economies, centered now in the individuals and not only in populations, and the emergence of new discourses of specialized knowledge, created also new domains of action that shaped new social disciplinary institutions, in a context of pedagogical modernity and new social attitude to the children. Among them, the correctional institutions for children developed a set of disciplinary devices, gradually progressing from the exercise over the body of subjects to become addressed and persuasive to the self of the subject, seeking to shape his conduct but maintaining the use of a disciplinary regulation. Those institutions, and their regimes of practices, are the technical support of the path of modernity to regenerate and educate the delinquent and deprived children. To accomplish the aim of this study, were analyzed the progression of the regimental practices and pedagogical discourses of those institutions in Portugal.
