O papel da radiocirurgia no tratamento do neurinoma do acústico

Abstract

The Acoustic Neuroma is a benign, generally unilateral and indolent tumor, which derives from Schwann cells and develops on the VIII cranial nerve. It is often asymptomatic, hence its frequently accidental diagnosis. MRI is the imaging technique used to confirm the diagnosis. Regarding treatment, there are three main approaches: wait-and-see policy, microsurgery and radiosurgery. This article intends to gather information about the Acoustic Neuroma treatment and compare the outcomes obtained with each approach regarding tumor control and recurrence risk, hearing preservation, facial nerve preservation and patients’ quality of life.
