Autoconceito profissional dos enfermeiros : um estudo diferencial

Abstract

The principal goal of this learning is to analyse the connection between the professional self-concept of the nurses, personal variables (age and gender) and contextual variables (graduation level, basis formation year, training, category and professional experience and working place). The conceptual picture was based upon the development theories of the personal self (differential, cognitive-social and of the development perspectives) for the narrow relation amongst these ones and those who support the differentiation of the professional self. In 1992, David organised a specific scale, to evaluate the professional self-concept of the nurses, named " Professional Self-Concept Scale " (PSC), used to collect the data. The sample was represented by one hundred and sixty seven nurses working at two Hospitables Institutions. Two moments were appraised in the analysis of the information. In first place, considering the instrument's fidelity and validity, the psychometric qualities of the questionary were evaluated. The PSC was composed by twenty items in groups of five dimensions (Efficacy, Competence, Leadership, Satisfaction and to Care). The results classify the PSC as a scale with metrical devices apropriated to evaluate the professional self-concept of the nurses, identifying this scale as a multidimensional, evolutive and capable of auto - valuation construct. The second step was to analyse the variance among the PSCs dimensions and the independent variables, in way to know the degree of association and to identify the differentiation of the groups in study. The statistical results proved an association engaging every scale dimensions and the independent variables, except the Care one. Studying the localisation of the differences between the groups, the data suggested an evolutive tendency in connecting the variables with the PSCs dimensions. According to personal variables, the professional self-concept of the nurses seems to be different concerning the age, if the dimensions are Leadership and Satisfaction, about the gender if it is relative to Satisfaction. At the social-professional variables, the self-concept of the nurses got different, regarding the professional categories at the Eficacy. Leadership and Satisfaction dimensions, To basic professional graduation at the Competence, Leadership and Satisfaction dimensions. The Leadership if it concernes the graduation after the basic one. The decade when the basic formation was completed for every PSCs dimensions. The professional experience attending to Competence and Leadership dimensions. The training when it concernes Leadership and Satisfaction. At last, the self-concept of the nurses, regarding the institutions where they perform, got diferent only at the Competence dimension.
