El iberismo político, en sus múltiples manifestaciones a lo largo de los siglos XIX y XX, ha sido ya debidamente estudiado e historiado; no ocurre lo mismo, sin embargo, con el iberismo cultural (el impulso de acercamiento entre las culturas española y portuguesa, basado en sus interrelaciones históricas). Las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las primeras del siglo XX fueron especialmente pródigas en encuentros e intercambios literarios y culturales, no solo en el eje Lisboa-Madrid, sino también a través de las nacionalidades periféricas ibéricas (Cataluña, Galicia, País Vasco); falta todavía, con todo, un estudio comprehensivo que sistematice y explique, en su contexto histórico, estos diálogos entre culturas.

Political Iberism (or Iberianism), in its multiple manifestations during the 19th and 20th centuries, has already been studied and historicized; the same cannot be said about cultural Iberism: the impulse towards an approximation of Spanish and Portuguese cultures, based on their historical interrelations. The last decades of the 19th and the first decades of the 20th century are especially generous in literary and cultural encounters and exchanges, not only in the Lisbon-Madrid axis, but also throughout the peripheral Iberian nationalities (Catalonia, Galicia, Basque Country); however, we are still lacking a comprehensive study to systematize and explain these cultural dialogues in their historical context.
