Abstract

As doenças cardiovasculares são a principal causa de mortalidade mundial, responsáveis por 47% de mortes na Europa e 40% em Portugal. A dislipidemia é um dos fatores de risco modificáveis. As estatinas, 1ª escolha segundo guidelines europeias e americanas, são o grupo terapêutico mais consumido. O recurso à fitoterapia é frequente. Esta monografia pretendeu compreender as formas de interação entre plantas medicinais e as estatinas. Para tal foi elaborada pesquisa bibliográfica de fontes primárias, secundárias e terciarias publicadas entre 1997 e 2014 com base em palavras-chave pré-definidas. Vários estudos abordam o papel de diversas plantas medicinais no tratamento de dislipidemias e nas interações. Estão descritas interações farmacocinéticas entre plantas medicinais com atividade hipolipemiante e algumas estatinas: coadministração de Ginkgo biloba ou romã reduz a concentração de sinvastatina; coadministração com alho aumenta a concentração de atorvastatina. No caso de plantas medicinais habitualmente consumidos pela população (camomila, erva de São João, chá verde, canela, tília, erva cidreira, salsa, coentro) as primeiras quatro são inibidoras do CYP3A4, isoenzimas essenciais ao metabolismo das estatinas. Conclui-se ser essencial sensibilizar a população para a problemática do uso concomitante de plantas medicinais e para a importância de informar o profissional de saúde sobre que plantas/chás toma.
