Abstract

Enquadramento Teórico: As complicações advindas da HTA resultam num total de 9,4 milhões de mortes, por ano, no mundo inteiro. Tendo em mente a sua elevada prevalência e, muitas vezes, os escassos recursos socioeconómicos, a acrescentar à dificuldade no acesso aos cuidados de saúde, é necessária mais pesquisa científica para comprovar a eficácia e segurança das plantas tradicionalmente utilizadas para o seu controlo. Objectivos: Como objectivo principal pretendeu-se perceber se o Alho (Allium sativum), Pirliteiro (Crataegus monogyna, Crataegus oxyacantha), Oliveira (Olea europaea) e o Taráxaco (Taraxacum officinale) são, ou não, eficazes no controlo da HTA. Métodos: Recorreu-se à PubMed, b-on, ScienceDirect e Web of Science, utilizando-se palavras-chave como: "hypertension", "high blood pressure", "Olea europaea", "Crataegus", "Allium sativum", "Taraxacum", tendo sido incluídos artigos publicados entre Janeiro de 2000 e Junho de 2014. Resultados e Conclusões: A utilização de preparações à base de alho ou de folhas de oliveira, parecem ter efeitos positivos na diminuição da PA em pessoas hipertensas. A oliveira parece ser eficaz na redução da PAS e PAD, enquanto que o alho, parece igualmente ter eficácia, mas mais focada na diminuição da PAS. Quanto ao pirliteiro e ao taráxaco, é ainda necessária a realização de mais estudos.
