Abstract

A huge technological revolution changed deeply the concept of society dynamics and, as a natural consequence, the school routine, its way of gathering knowledge and how to use it. This microcosm, often referred to as the society mirror, has a function, among other purposes of preparing citizens for an active life in society. In the core of this institution, the school library is the fulcrum and pivot of transversal knowledge, contributing to learning democratization as well as an important key to new sources of knowledge. Struggling against asymmetries created by society itself, the school library represents a very important role, preventing info-exclusion, providing internet access, but mainly through the spread of technology for every person who are interested or require digital literacy. This is the first step for technological fluency, and the key to accessing the professional world since decades ago. In this project, designed as a case study, we tried to figure out how a significant number of teachers reacted to this pedagogical practice change. The teachers I interviewed deal with the more autonomous students who are apparently more involved in their learning process, in a constructive way. So, we want to find out what really changed, which obstacles had to be solved, as well as the benefits of using new technologies. Since the interviews were semi structured, some teachers shared their thoughts and feelings willingly, remembering what happened when computers come to school and their recent experiences with pupils. This modest study is an attempt to understand the real use of technologies at present. Teachers have accepted computers and they use them but we have to acknowledge that few use the new Web tools. They appear to forget how motivating and enabling it can be for learning. Given what has been said, the school library plays an important role in changing attitudes towards technologies and pedagogical practice, by giving access to different kinds of knowledge and new technologies available to the community.
