Abstract

Introduction: Attractivity plays an important role in the self-esteem of each person as well as in their ability to relate with others. It is often synonymous of social power and success and has a positive influence on all areas of civilized society. Thus, the face has been subject of study by scientists, doctors and artists, in order to determine and reproduce ideal facial features. This research aimed to determine the relationship between facial attractiveness in patients with skeletal class I and III, and cephalometric analysis. Materials and methods: Facial attractiveness of 40 subjects was evaluated by fourteen lay people using a visual analog scale, in pictures taking frontally at rest and smiling, in profile and a triplet. Attractiveness was then correlated with the cephalometric analysis, using a quadratic function. Results and conclusions: Correlation between cephalometric variables and facial attractiveness was statistically significant for the distance of lower lip to SnPog' line and facial attractiveness in front at rest and profile pictures; and for SNA variable and facial attractiveness in the triplet.
