Abstract

Nowadays, dysphonia associated to vocal fold scarring is a challenge to patients and clinicians. Although there are no epidemiology statistics, it’s consensual that vocal fold scarring is biggest single cause of dysphonia after vocal fold surgery. Despite of newer medical and surgical interventions, obtained results are inconsistent and supoptimal, being prevention the current best treatment. To a better approach of this issue, is therefore essential that practitioners have a good comprehension of the anatomy, and above all, of the histology of lamina propria, as well the mecanisms of the vocal fold scar, all themes that this article pretends to review.
