Tratamento da ambliopia

Abstract

Amblyopia is an ophthalmologic disease developed during childhood, as a consequence of abnormal visual experience (strabismus, anisometropia and deprivation); it is the most common cause of monocular blindness globally. Occlusion therapy is still the mainstay treatment, although it is not always effective, and there are also compliance and recurrence issues. Until now, a lot of investigation has been made about Amblyopia, in order to optimize the treatments available and propose new ones, taking into account the current advances in knowledge of neural mechanisms. In this review, I aim to address all available treatments, evaluate and compare their results, verify the consistency of its use in selected cases of Hospital de Santa Maria and summarize a therapeutic approach to this disease, as well as summarize emerging therapeutic strategies due to the current concepts of brain plasticity
