Suplementos Alimentares para o Emagrecimento

Abstract

Obesity is one of the major public health problems in twentieth century and is a risk factor for several diseases. Given the difficulty of adapting to a healthy lifestyle, all over the world there are people looking for a miracle product that leads to rapid and effortless weight loss. In this context, dietary supplements for weight loss have been very popular. The main objective of this paper is to verify whether these products are an asset in the treatment and/or prevention of obesity and can be advised without danger to the health of consumers. Several articles of these food supplements elucidate their composition and the mechanisms of action. It was found that there is no significant and consistent scientific evidence that allows affirming the effectiveness of these products. The observed weight loss is often related to its laxative and diuretic effect, most are composed by multiple compounds and their combined effects are unknown. Besides, their quality control is not appropriate for us to consider them safe.
