Escultura digital contemporânea

Escultura digital contemporânea

Abstract

Digital sculpture is assumed as a paradigmatic form of expression in the artostic expression of the contemporary art scene. Resulting from a society influenced by media, it finds its audience in the phenomena of Digital Culture. This autonomous form of sculpture makes use of digital technological as a imagery and operating cognitive tool, to adopt new ways of creating, redeeming an interactive dialogue between the subject and the piece. In this context, digital media is observed in two perspectives that stand out: on the one hand, digital is assumed as a medium of sculptural expression, revealing its immateriality and its virtuality, characteristics of the medium. As a digital medium it enables interactivity, simulation and immersiveness in your space. On the other hand, digital media allows for a vast range of instruments operating at different levels in the creation process. Thus, the sculptor has devices that enable him to scan 3D physical references, creating and molding complex morphologies by making use of 3D printing technology in order to materialize his sculptural object. This reality can be seen in two paradigmatic areas of sculpture: in the of the practice of the professional sculptor, and in the teaching and learning of this discipline. In both cases, contemporary digital sculpture is embodied as a reality of our digital society, highlighting emerging issues and speculating themes that contribute to the development of general studies and sculpture technological studies.
