Abstract

The main goal of the following investigation is to evaluate the differential effect of the attachment representation to father and to mother at the school adjustment of children between 6 and 11 years. To achieve this aim, two instruments were used: the Attachment Doll Story Completion Task, a semi-structured procedure to evaluate the attachment representation and the Questionário de Capacidades e Dificuldades, fulfilled by teachers to evaluate several dimensions of school adjustment of the children. The results shows that the children with more likeness to the avoidant prototype of the attachment are recognized by teachers as less pro-social. The children with a secure representation of attachment to mother revealed significantly more pro-social behaviors, less relacional problems with peers and less problems of hyperactivity as reflected in teachers’ reports. In relation to the representation of attachment to father, it was noted that the children with more likeness with disorganised prototype revealed more emocionals symptons, according the teachers.
