Abstract

A vertente emocional do ser humano continua a ser um dos maiores desafios na investigação do desenvolvimento, dada a sua importância na regulação comportamental do indivíduo. Nas últimas décadas vários autores têm mostrado que a relação de vínculo precoce é um importante modulador dos circuitos neuronais envolvidos no processamento emocional, através da sua influência sobre os padrões neurohormonais de um cérebro imaturo como o de um recém-nascido. A regulação emocional envolve um complexo conjunto de vias neuronais, cuja desregulação se encontra fortemente associada a psicopatologia. Neste contexto, tem-se tornado cada vez mais importante a compreensão destes circuitos, numa tentativa de melhor perceber quais os seus moduladores. Estudos têm salientado a importância das regiões frontolímbicas e corticais na regulação emocional. Tendo em conta o papel da amígdala na aprendizagem do medo condicionado e a sua implicação na reatividade ao stress, esta revisão tem por objetivo compreender o papel desta estrutura na regulação emocional, bem como as possíveis alterações morfológicas e funcionais que podem condicionar um fenótipo de maior ou menor vulnerabilidade psicopatológica.

The emotional aspect of the human being remains a major challenge in the development research, given its importance in behavioral regulation. In the last decades, many authors have been showing that early attachment is an important modulator of brain circuits involved in emotional processing, through its influence on neurohormonal patterns of an immature brain like a newborn one. .The emotion regulation involves a complex set of neural pathways, whose deregulation is strongly associated with psychopathology. In this context, it has become increasingly important to understand these circuits in an attempt to better understand their modulators. Studies have been evidencing the importance of frontolimbic and cortical areas in emotion regulation. Knowing the role of the amygdala in fear conditioning learning and its implication on reactivity to stress, the goal of this scientific review is to better understand the role of this structure in emotional regulation, as well as the potential morphological and functional changes that can etermine a phenotype of increased or decreased psychopathological vulnerability.
