Restauração católica e formação do clero secular: António Ferreira Pinto (1871-1949)

Abstract

O trabalho que se apresenta enquadra-se na investigação realizada no âmbito da História e Cultura das Religiões com o objectivo de analisar a formação e a instrução proporcionadas aos futuros sacerdotes na realidade contemporânea portuguesa entre os fins do século XIX e meados do século XX. Fazemo-lo recorrendo à actividade concreta realizada pelo padre António Ferreira Pinto (1871-1949) em proveito da vitalidade do catolicismo português coetâneo na tarefa da «restauração católica». A investigação, cujos resultados agora se mostram, apresenta as principais actividades do padre Ferreira Pinto na sua acção enquanto responsável pelo Seminário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Porto. Estudamos as medidas implementadas, o modelo de padre proposto, o método pedagógico seguido, e a reforma curricular empreendida.

Abstract: This work is an investigation in the History and Culture of Religion. Its aim is to analyze the training and education provided to future priests between the late nineteenth and midtwentieth century in Portugal. We study António Ferreira Pinto’s (1871-1949) contribution towards promoting the vitality of Portuguese Catholicism in the task of "Catholic Restoration". Our investigation presents the main activities of priest Ferreira Pinto: the measures he implemented, his proposed model of priesthood, the teaching method he followed, and the curricular reform undertaken while he was responsible for the Seminário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Oporto.Key-words: "Catholic Restoration”, seminars
