Abstract

All people have professional development needs, which should be met over the course of their career. Nowadays, the job market is getting progressively uncertain, and individuals feel they have to respond differently to labor demands to meet their goals. The Career Construction theory defended by Mark Savickas, defines Career Adaptability as an effective response to the growing needs of the employee and to the changes in the analyze the professional field. The Career Satisfaction, by Greenhaus, Parasuraman and Wormley, is expressed on the basis of reflection about the professional course. The study purpose is to verify whether the Career Adaptability is associated with Career Satisfaction. Furthermore is analyzed the influence of age on Adaptability strategies and on Career Satisfaction. The Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Portugal and the Career Satisfaction Questionnaire were applied to a sample of 60 employees of a public transport company. The results revealed that employees use the four strategies of self-regulation (Concern, Control, Curiosity and Confidence) to adapt to professional course and feel moderately satisfied with their career. The findings indicate that the Career Adaptability, including Concern about the future and the Confidence to achieve occupational aspirations are associated with Career Satisfaction. However, the age of the employees wasn’t a factor on the development of Career Adaptability strategies and Career Satisfaction.
