Aggressività, isolamento e adattamento: il ruolo della reputazione sociale.

Abstract

Scopo dello studio è quello di esaminare la relazione tra la reputazione sociale legata all'aggressività e i comportamenti di isolamento sociale e l'adattamento durante la preadolescenza e l'adolescenza. Sono state prese in considerazione anche le differenze di genere. Si tratta di uno studio longitudinale durato due anni che ha coinvolto 109 adolescenti (52 maschi e 57 femmine) di età compresa tra i 10 e i 14 anni. I risultati hanno dimostrato che sia l'aggressività che l'isolamento sociale sono associati a una reputazione sociale negativa, ma in modo differente. Mentre l'aggressività è legata ad un esplicito rifiuto da parte dei pari, l'isolamento sociale sembra essere considerato dai pari in maniera meno negativa e scompare in adolescenza. Dal punto di vista degli insegnanti, sembra esistere una relazione tra aggressività e comportamenti di tipo esternalizzato solo nel caso dei maschi. Gli adolescenti socialmente isolati esprimono sentimenti di solitudine durante l'adolescenza, e in accordo con gli insegnanti manifestano in generale comportamenti di tipo internalizzato. Inoltre, i risultati suggeriscono che dalla preadolescenza all'adolescenza l'isolamento sociale rimane stabili per entrambi i sessi, mentre l'aggressività solo per i maschi.
