Abstract

Nell’articolo si fornisce il resoconto di un rilevamento linguistico condotto presso i parlanti di Racalmuto, che consente di inquadrare i dati raccolti da Sciascia in Kermesse (1982), ripubblicato in forma ampliata col titolo di Occhio di capra (1984), e di individuare i criteri scelti dallo scrittore nell’impianto generale dell’opera. Nei lavori precedenti a Il contesto (1971), caratterizzate da un’adesione al realismo, Sciascia inserì spesso proverbi e modi di dire del dialetto di Racalmuto. Per esempio, Gli zii di Sicilia (1958) contiene strutture fraseologiche tipiche del dialetto siciliano: «cominciò a fare come il gatto quando mastica polmone» - elaborato a partire dal racalmutese «fa comu lu attu cu lu purmuni mmucca» - e lessemi dialettali italianizzati, talvolta con inserti metalinguistici. Alla luce dei dati linguistici raccolti sul campo, si chiariscono le scelte dello scrittore sul piano fonetico, nella direzione di una standardizzazione del dialetto, come nel verbo «mitti», mette, adattato dal racalmutese «minti».
