Restauro

Authors: Palazzotto, Emanuele;
Abstract

The essay has been developed on the occasion of the X Forum ProArch, National Scientific Society of Architectural Design teachers, SSD ICAR 14-15-16, held in Genoa, on 16-17-18 November 2023. The interpretation of the term "restoration" demonstrates - in the specific disciplinary path and towards a reform of knowledge continuously re-proposed within the academic framework - how necessary a path of semantic redefinition of some terms is today with respect to the habits of their popularization. Towards the term "restoration", today in necessary a renewed reflection on what the object is and what the most suitable tools are for achieving the main quality objectives implicit in the term, which our contemporaneity and academic communities should set themselves with secular openness and overall vision, even more so in a historical phase such as the contemporary one in which it is reasonable to imagine that the work of architects, in the coming decades, will be almost exclusively concentrated on the valorisation and modification of what already exists, with a view to sustainability and reuse. The reference to a word like "restoration" should be part of the more general system of paths necessary for the continuous redefinition of individual scientific disciplines by developing tangents rather than the manifestation of autonomies, in the common rooting in the most intimate statute of architecture.
