Abstract

L’evidente differenza tra Settentrione e Meridione non è tenuta, sovente, in giusto conto quando si riflette sul fenomeno dell’immigrazione in Italia. Si tralascia di osservare che se le condizioni economiche, la cultura, il tessuto sociale della regione in cui i migranti si inseriscono variano, varieranno anche i rapporti tra autoctoni e stranieri, il ruolo economico assunto dai migranti, i modi dell’integrazione e dell’esclusione. Ad esempio la Sicilia è la regione in cui percentualmente gli irregolari sono di più, eppure dove la criminalità straniera è più bassa ed anche meno forte la paura. Questo testo intende contribuire ad esplorare le peculiarità dell’immigrazione nell’Isola, attraverso studi e storie di vita riguardanti due figure chiave di migranti in Sicilia: le donne e i richiedenti asilo. In particolare saranno analizzati casi emblematici e attualissimi come la prostituzione nigeriana, la commercializzazione dell'intimità nei mestieri di cura svolti da donne straniere, le traversie dei richiedenti asilo che sbarcano sulle coste siciliane o che sono respinti prima ancora dell’approdo. Il volume contiene una parte saggistica redatta da esperti e una raccolta di storie di vita scritta da giovani universitari siciliani che hanno incontrato i migranti.
