L'equivoco don Milani

Abstract

L’Italia ha imparato a comprendere la sua scuola in termini che le sono profondamente ostili. È questo il lascito di don Milani. E sta qui il nucleo di un equivoco che accompagna il nostro discorso educativo dagli anni Settanta in avanti. Ebreo convertito al cristianesimo e prete in odio alla borghesia, che nella Chiesa aveva aperto un’aspra polemica in nome dei poveri, don Milani sembrò incarnare una potente richiesta di cambiamento. In una maniera che ha qualcosa di profondamente ironico, tuttavia, la cultura pedagogica italiana ha finito per restare impigliata nelle stesse contraddizioni in cui si dibatteva il suo eroe. Il fatto è che don Milani, figura del nuovo, sarebbe rimasto fedele fino alla fine all’antico, al messaggio di Cristo e alla Chiesa. E a ben vedere anche a una idea di borghesia come classe di cultura. A pensarci è sorprendente come una figura cosí complessa, piena di tante cose, ambigua, contraddittoria e indubbiamente carica di fascino sia stata poi ridotta al figurino senza spessore del pedagogismo nostrano. L’ideologia che nel nome di don Milani pretende di bandirne il messaggio finisce cosí per imprigionare il prete a Barbiana ma svuota contemporaneamente Barbiana di ogni significato.
