Abordagem fisioterapêutica na displasia coxofemoral em cães

Abstract

Hip dysplasia is a joint abnormality, usually bilateral, progressing to degenerative joint disease that involves the head of the fémur, joint capsule and acetabulum. Affects all races, of both genders, being the large breeds more predisposed to the disease. It is a multifactorial disease that may be due to genetic and environmental factors. With the evolution of the disease, the animal shows signs such as pain, lameness and muscular atrophy. The diagnosis is made through clinical signs, orthopedic examination and radiographic images, being possible a preventive/medical or a surgical treatment. Physiotherapy and acupuncture are areas that help in pain control and reduce disease progression, as well as maintaining muscle mass and strength. In this dissertation three clinical cases of dogs with hip dysplasia were presented the therapeutic protocol implemented and the recovery achieved.
