O objetivo desta dissertação centra-se na análise dos elementos morfológicos da vila de Coruche, desde os seus primórdios até aos nossos dias. Desde a colina do castelo, passando pelo espaço ocupado pelo edificado até ao rio Sorraia, são escassas as fontes onde nos possamos ancorar para formular premissas que sustentem quer a origem quer a evolução da vila. Assim, as respostas para as questões colocadas num trabalho desta natureza foram pesquisadas nos dados disponíveis, quer em textos quer na análise morfológica in loco. No ano de 1975 a vila de Coruche viu aprovado o seu primeiro Plano Geral de Urbanização. Porém, o espaço e o tempo encarregaram-se de o destituir de exequibilidade. Nos últimos anos têm-se verificado algumas intervenções ao nível da reabilitação do espaço público. Ora, se a alguns casos se tem que reconhecer qualidade, uma vez que trouxeram aos espaços em apreço uma requalificação assinalável, a aferir pela forma como as pessoas dele fruem, outros há que, não obstante terem operado transformações significativas, contrariaram tal tendência. No sentido de tirar partido de fundos comunitários, o município de Coruche está a proceder à demarcação de áreas de reabilitação urbana (ARU), sendo que uma delas, na circunstância a mais significativa, abrange toda a área do Centro Histórico da vila. Contudo, sem o conhecimento da génese fundacional e do consequente enquadramento histórico, capazes de fornecer dados relevantes relativamente ao núcleo pré-existente, será difícil produzir qualquer documento que traduza uma ideia de reabilitação do todo, em detrimento da reabilitação isolada das partes. Foi, pois, a busca destas inter-relações, centralidade e periferias, zona alta e zona baixa, espaços públicos, semipúblicos e privados, cheios e vazios urbanos, zonas habitacionais, de comércio e de serviços, frente ribeirinha, intensidade de fluxos, em suma, de todos os elementos essenciais caraterizadores da identidade da zona de estudo, que consubstanciou a orientação desta dissertação.

This study focuses on the analysis of the morphological elements of Coruche village, from its early development to the present day. From the castle hill, through the space occupied by the buildings to the Sorraia river, the sources that can be examined to formulate assumptions supporting either the origin or the evolution of the village are quite scarce. Therefore, in a study of this nature, the answers to the posed questions must be searched in the available data, whether it is written text or morphology analyses in loco. In 1975 Coruche village had approved its first Urbanization General Plan. But space and time destroyed its feasibility. Despite some projects have recognized quality, since they brought a remarkable rehabilitation to the spaces being considered, assessed by the way people enjoy them, there are others that, despite having operated significant changes, are against this trend. In order to take advantage of EU funds, the municipality of Coruche is undertaking the demarcation of urban renewal areas (ARU), one of which, in this case the most significant, covers the entire area of the village's Historical Centre. However, without the knowledge of its origins and subsequent historical framework, capable of providing relevant data for the pre-existing nucleus, it will be difficult to produce a document translating an idea of rehabilitation of the whole, rather than the isolated rehabilitation of the sections. It is therefore the search of these interrelations, centrality and peripheries, uptown and downtown area, public, semi-public and private spaces, full and empty urban spaces, residential, shopping and service areas, waterfront, intensity of flows, overall, the essential elements characterizing the identity of the study area, that marked the orientation of this dissertation.
