Abstract

Dating violence, like the conjugal violence, has achieved great visibility on a social and scientific level, currently being considered as a social problem that affects many young people. This phenomenon has gained notoriety and distinguished itself from Domestic Violence that differs from the first in several aspects. Through the review found, it was possible to confirm that the fact that the dating violence occurs in a phase as critical as adolescence the existence of violence can shape behaviors in future relations influencing attitudes and beliefs regarding perpetration and victimization in this type of violence. A recent study conducted in Portugal in 2010 has shown that at least one act of abuse perpetrated by a dating partner during the previous year was reported by 25.4% of participants and abuse of a partner was reported by 30.6% of participants, aged 13 to 29 years. These upsetting levels of violence in juvenile intimate relationships reinforce the need to prevent this phenomenon near the communities, such as the school comunity. The implementation of awareness programs is very relevant to call the attention of the youngest, as it is in adolescence that these programs may have more impact. In recent years, several school-based programs to prevent dating violence have been developed and, even though some of these efforts are beginning to show positive results, there are still many limitations.
