Exposição do espaço físico no medo do crime

Abstract

The main objective of the following investigation is to evaluate the risk awareness and fear in open spaces. For this study it was used an evaluation protocol developed by Brites et al (2004), which comprises social, demographic and background questions of the subjects. It also, included 10 photos that contained questions that allowed to understand how the subjects characterized the spaces, using a semantic differentiator. In a later stage it was used the Fear of Crime Index de Brites et al. (2004). One hundred individuals participated in the study of which 40 were male averaging 36.33 years old (DP=11.85) and 60 female subjects with an average age of 30.55 (DP=9.65). The main results proved that women present higher levels in the dimension “physiological reactions of Fear of Crime Index. When comparing by age groups or social status, there was no significant differences.
