Abstract

A narrative framed in theoretical analysis on career paths serves as a guideline to justifying the teacher’s need for self-training. And it allows identifying a double issue on teaching philosophy at high school level: the need to discover the definition of didactic strategies to simplify that which, to the students, seems complex; and also, a project to debunk an academic and social perception on the course’s approachability. To achieve these strategies, contributions from clinical and collaborative supervision, from leadership attitudes, from theories of education, from project methodology and even from teaching project are taken advantage of. Besides these contributions, the theoretical grounding also includes the teachability of Philosophy, the knowledge of its historical background in Portugal and its proposed objectives, as well as the philosophy teacher’s profile. Proposals for overcoming difficulties include exemplifying a specific approach in 'classes' and a project to be held in the 'cultural week', aimed at the entire school. The latter takes advantage of an ‘informal’ medium for exploration of philosophical issues framed by the syllabus (the screening of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy), with which one may prove its pedagogical use and accessibility to the entire school population.
