Projecto Biblioteca no Aterro da Boavista

Abstract

This Dissertation/Report aims to present and defend the projectual strategies put into practice in the development of this architectural project, designed by the student in Project III subject in the academic year 2010/2011, with the purpose of presenting an architectural solution that would respond to the given challenge. With the proposal for a new public facility, a medium-sized library that is intended to work not only programmatic and constructive issues, but gain a broader understanding of the act of thinking architecture. The research conducted for the development of this proposal and the analysis of the design process, complement the subject of this Dissertation/Report. Much more than a book warehouse, this space associated to knowledge and memory should be considered as a gateway to a vast network of information and a place for learning, able to promote relations of proximity and interaction whereby enabling a spontaneous relationship between space, users and new media technology. This new "Meeting Point" integrated in the urban fabric, forgotten by the city, aims to dynamize the urban environment and meet the needs of the population, in a space that epitomizes the XXI century library.
