Depois de um longo período da Idade Média na Europa, particularmente no seu país, Maquiavel sentiu a necessidade de reconciliar, internamente, todos os atores sociais do seu tempo em nome da estabilidade política e/ou governação. Para esta finalidade, promoveu a primazia do político em detrimento dos dogmatismos medievais. nesta perspetiva, expressou o seu pensamento político através do Príncipe, onde aconselha a todos os políticos de então sobre a arte de governar. Trata-se da manifestação da sua disponibilidade, para remediar e/ou resolver o mal fundamental que denunciava: a falta de unidade entre italianos (não submissos e egoístas), que se traduziu, basicamente, nos permanentes sucessos e insucessos da governação do país. E é dentro desta lógica que as concepções políticas de Maquiavel devem ser analisadas e compreendidas, recorrendo, sistematicamente, não só à história do passado político europeu; passado político esse, que muito o influenciou como intelectual e político de então, como também e, fundamentalmente, ao que se passava no seu país.

After the long period of the Middle Age in Europe, particularly in his home country, Machiavelli felt the need to reconcile internally all social actors of his time in the name of political stability and/or governance. For this purpose, he promoted the primacy of politics to the detriment of dogmatisms. From this perspective, he expressed his political thought through the Prince, where he advises all political actors on the art of governing. This is the manifestation of his willingness to remedy and/or resolve the fundamental evil he denounced: the lack of unity among Italians (no meek, and self-seekers), which translated basically permanent us successes and setbacks of the governance of the country. And it is within this logic, that the political conceptions of Machiavelli, must be analyzed and understood, using not only systematically, the history of past European politician; political past that much influenced as so political and intellectual, but also and, above all, what was happening in his country.
