Politology, understood as «the observation, analysis, comparison, systemati - zation and explanation of the political facts and events and of their effects on societies», originated in Ancient Greece. The study of political phenomena was continued and developed, over time, by the the reflections of many political scientists. In this essay, a study of the life and work of n iccolo Machiavelli is done in a pa - rallel approach that allows us to understand, step by step, how and with what intensity the professional life of the Florentine reflected in his political thinking and his work. It was then done a study of the works of Machiavelli and their social and political consequences and effects is done, allowing to assess the real contribution of Machiavelli for the development of Political Science.
A Politologia, entendida como «a observação, análise, comparação, sistematiza - ção e explicação dos factos e dos acontecimentos políticos e dos seus efeitos nas sociedades», nasceu na Antiguidade grega. O estudo dos fenómenos políticos foi continuado e desenvolvido, ao longo dos tempos, pelas reflexões de numerosos politólogos. n este ensaio faz-se um estudo da vida e da obra de n icolau Maquiavel, numa exposição paralela que permite compreender, passo a passo, de que forma e com que intensidade a vida profissional do florentino se refletiu no seu pensa - mento político e na sua obra. Procede-se, de seguida, ao estudo das obras de Maquiavel e dos seus reflexos e efeitos políticos e sociais, permitindo aquilatar o real contributo de Maquiavel para o desenvolvimento da Ciência Política.
