Tricograma como método de estudo de prurido em gatos

Abstract

O prurido felino, associado ou não a lesões, é uma manifestação frequente em dermatologia veterinária. Ele manifesta-se por coçar, lamber e até morder a área afectada, sendo essencial para um diagnóstico correcto uma anamnese e um exame clínico detalhados. Quando ocorre perda de pêlo e a manifestação clínica de alopécia está presente, o médico veterinário deve ter sempre em atenção, na sua prática clínica, que as etiologias podem ser múltiplas, bem como as patologias associadas. O objetivo deste estudo consistiu em avaliar o tricograma como método de diagnóstico auxiliar na determinação indireta de prurido felino, em animais com lesões de alopécia em zonas acessíveis à lambedura. A amostra foi constituída por 40 gatos, dos quais 20 se incluíam no grupo com alopécia e os restantes 20 no grupo de controlo, ou seja, sem patologia dermatológica. Através da realização de um questionário, dirigido aos proprietários, foi possível avaliar o prurido que estes percepcionaram nos seus gatos. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, 85% dos animais demonstraram a presença de prurido, com intensidade média de 5,85, numa escala de 0 a 10, sendo o lamber excessivo a manifestação clínica mais frequentemente encontrada (82% dos casos) e o abdómen a região mais afectada por lesões de alopécia (60%). Comparativamente ao grupo de controlo, foi possível observar no grupo com alopécia, um maior número de hastes pilosas quebradas e raízes em anagénese. Deste modo, o estudo sugere que, na avaliação do prurido nos gatos, o tricograma é um meio auxiliar de diagnóstico que se revela de extrema importância na prática clínica. 

Feline pruritus, whether or not associated with lesions, is a common occurrence in veterinary medicine. It manifests by scratching, licking and even biting to the affected area, making it essential to have an accurate medical history and clinical examination of the animal. When alopecia and loss of fur is apparent, the veterinarian should always take into account in his examination that etiologies can be varied, as well as any associated pathologies. In this study, we aim to evaluate how the trichogram works as an auxiliary method in the indirect diagnosis of feline pruritus in animals with alopecic lesions in areas accessible to licking. Our sample consisted of forty cats, twenty of which were in the alopecic group, and the remaining twenty in the control group, which had no dermatological pathologies. Through a questionnaire directed at the owners, it was possible evaluate their perception of their pet's pruritus. Our results indicate that 85% of all animals are pruritic, with an average intensity of 5,85 in a scale of 1-10. Excessive licking was the most common clinical manifestation (82% of cases) and the abdomen was the most commonly affected region (60% of cases). Relative to the control group, we observed that animals in the alopecic group had a larger number of broken hairs at the stem and folicules in anagenisis. Our results suggest that the trichogram is an important clinical method to evaluate feline pruriency.
