Sintomatologia depressiva e ansiosa em utilizadores do Facebook

Abstract

Nowadays, Facebook has become one of the most important and powerful tools of communication. This social network allows all its users the interrelation, exchange of information and sense of belonging to a particular group or social style. In this study, we sought to explore the relationship between their use, depression and anxiety. The sample for this study consisted of 201 Facebook users, of which 123 were female and 78 were male, aged between 18 and 73 years old. As evaluation tools we used a sociodemographic questionnaire, one questionnaire related to the use of the Internet and Facebook, as well as the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Zung scale of self-rated anxiety (SAS). The results confirm the hypothesis related to the values of anxiety and depression that differ in our sample in terms of sociodemographic variables, but invalidate the assumptions that supported the increasing values of anxiety and depression in Facebook users.
