Geometria descritiva : aprendizagem de uma nova linguagem

Abstract

This research fits in with the area of Descriptive Geometry, focusing its issue in the teaching and learning process of this curricular subject, as a new language in the school cur¬riculum. This empirical study seeks to understand, in a in-depth and comprehensive way, how, through oral discourse/communication, is transmitted and understood specific concepts of Descriptive Geometry; to what extent is there a meaning of concepts when students, who have contact with this kind of language for the first time, contextualize them orally. This study with a qualitative approach uses a case study as a research strategy. The object of study is a group of 10th year of “Scientific and Humanistic Course of Visual Arts” and the research context is the school itself and the classroom. As data resource we also use field notes (observation and records) with a reflexive approach taken during the research. A series of tables were devised for its analysis, corre¬sponding to a system of categories established contextually according to stated objectives. Finally, with this research we want to find some answers to the assumptions that guided this research process. Overall we concluded that students make an effort to trace their classroom discourse with the context of Descriptive Geometry, however, several factors lead to adulteration, shuf¬fle and contusion in the language used. Many students reveal failures in interpretation, comprehension and speech of the Por¬tuguese language which make difficult to understand the specific, proper, logical and rational concepts of Descriptive Geometry. It is noticed that the acquisition of those specific concepts is often deceived by the inability of students to associate either spatial concepts to speech or proper language to its meaningful¬ness three-dimensional space.
