O passadiço da Costa de Caparica

Abstract

The issue of accessibility in Costa de Caparica served as a pretext for the urban and environmental research that formed the basis of this work. The development of the investigation revealed serious urban errors with harmful consequences for the region and the environment. The development of the Costa de Caparica coastline happened very quickly without conscious planning of the place where intervention was taking place, with emphasis being given above all to economic aspects and the sudden tourist interest that was experienced in the region. Once a large sandy beach, the beaches of Costa de Caparica gradually lost ground to the sea and to the constructions that were getting closer and closer to it. The natural barriers that prevented the advance of the sea were successively replaced by artificialized sea fronts that impede the movement of sediments, causing disturbances and the imbalance of the natural system. In addition to the serious problems of disordering the territory, Costa de Caparica is occupied seasonally by thousands of people who seek to enjoy its beaches, putting pressure on the natural ecosystems by not respecting good environmental practices. The equipment proposed and presented here, develops from the interpretation of the area to be intervened and its weaknesses. Through its planning, an attempt was made to respond to all the disturbing questions of the place, with the main focus being the preservation of the environment in harmony with the development of accessibility, promoting the well-being of the users of Praia da Nova Praia. key words: Preservation | regeneration | Organization | Accessibility | Continuity
