Educação física e a transdisciplinaridade

Abstract

The objective of the present study is to analyze the benefits of a transdisciplinary curriculum, namely in a school that applies the curriculum IB International Baccalaureate©. We also sought to analyze how P hysical E ducation contributes to transdiscipli nary education and whether teachers are prepared for this type of transdisciplinary approach. This research was based on the assumption that a transdisciplinary approach is realistic and necessary for the evolution and progression of a comprehensive educat ion of the human being. Physical Education is a form of contribution to the transdisciplinary education by the exploratory character that transposes the disciplines in order to embrace other contents and knowledge. The study was developed from a qualitativ e research through semi structured interviews. A total of ten people were interviewed, three primary teachers, three physical education teachers, one PYP (Primary Years coordinator, one curriculum coordinator, one assistant principal, and the pr incipal of the primary school of the Emirates National School Al Ain campus. It was concluded, after analyzing the results, that a transdisciplinary program benefits both teachers and students, since both enrich. Students develop a higher order thinking, where they acquire an understanding of the world, enabling their own development and learning, questioning, reflecting and understanding what is going on around them. They develop in dividually intellectually, culturally, and they gain an individual, soci al conscience, sensitive to human relations and to the planet. Teachers develop a new way of collaborating with other teachers, develop creativity and pedagogical imagination, leading students to become part of their own learning process. They are teachers who explore knowledge that goes beyond their discipline, focus on the socio affective aspects in addition to the cognitive and motor aspects . They question and encourage students to go further, build new knowledge and make connections. Physical Education contributes to a transdisciplinary education through the holistic integral education. Not all teachers are prepared for this type of education,
