Abstract

O presente artigo busca revistar a análise feita em 2011 na Revista Portuguese Studies Review a qual fazia um apanhado iconográfico do conjunto de dez painéis da Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo da cidade de João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brasil. Com o avanço das pesquisas, senti a necessidade de retomar essas ideias, seja para corroborá-las ou refutá-las. Todavia, neste artigo, somente serão revisitados oito painéis visto que os dois restantes serão analisados em capítulo a parte pelo pesquisador Felipe Eugênio. A descoberta de algumas gravuras, assim com a atenção a detalhes que antes passaram desapercebidos, embasados pela proposta iconográfica de Erwin Panofsky e Rafael García Mahíques, conduzirão a narrativa trazendo novos elementos à compreensão iconográfica deste espaço.
