The aim of this study is to analyze the role played by Spanish military engineers sent to the viceroyalties of New Granada and New Spain during the eighteenth century. In addition to dealing with the design of defensive systems and the direction of the construction of fortifications to protect the main squares, these military engineers facilitated the circulation of models, treaties and architectural theories between the different cities, this being the main subject of analysis of the present study. This was possible thanks to the unequal mobility experienced by these professionals, who had to take on building tasks in different parts of the Caribbean to make up for the lack of master builders or architects.
